By Bhavna Agarwal: Netflix has been expanding its line-up to South Asia in the last two-three years. The streaming platform announced its largest line-up for 2023 with South Korean titles. As many as 34 new titles and sequels of existing titles were announced. The announcement was divided into four quarters and included the biggest stars from South Korea featuring in it. As per reports and data, Netflix claimed that almost 60% of its users watched Korean titles in 2022. The popularity of Korean titles surged across the world with Crash Landing on You and later doubled with Squid Game.
NETFLIX ANNOUNCES KOREAN SLATE FOR 2023
Don Kang, the company’s vice president of Korean content, in a brief statement said, “Over the last year, Korean series and films have regularly featured in our Global Top 10 list in more than 90 countries, and three of Netflix’s most-watched shows ever are from Korea.” Shows like Extraordinary Attorney Woo, Our Blues, Twenty-Five Twenty-One, Business Proposal, and All of Us Are Dead are some of the shows which went on to become global hits.

The 2023 slate for Netflix Korean shows includes movies as well. JUNG-E will start the year for Korean slates on Netflix. Many new titles were also announced. Destined With You was announced along with Kim Woo-bin starrer Black Night. Many sequels, including Sweet Home 2, The Glory 2, D.P. 2 were also shared. Park Seo-joon’s Gyeongseong Creature is also in the pipeline.

Netflix commented, “28 Korean works on Netflix, such as Gyeongseong Creature’ starring Park Seo Joon and Han So Hee, ‘Black Knight’ starring Kim Woo Bin, ‘Bandit: The Sound of a Knife’ starring Kim Nam Gil and ‘The Glory’ Season 2, will be released.”
More shows that will be coming to Netflix in 2023 are “Mask Girl’ starring Go Hyun Jung, Ahn Jae Hong, Yeom Hye Ran and Nana. ‘Queen Maker’ starring Kim Hee Ae and Moon So Ri will also be released in the second quarter, as per the announcement.’Bandit: The Sound of a Knife’ starring Kim Nam Gil and Seohyun will be released in the third quarter.
Morning Comes to Psychiatric Ward, starring Park Bo Young, is a series depicting various stories of the world and people who are heartbroken by Da Eun, a nurse who first started working in the Department of Psychiatry. Another show, ‘The Last Fool’ starring Ahn Eun Jin and Yoo Ah In, is also scheduled to be released in the fourth quarter.
